Letter from the Headmistress

"I want the best for my child."

Every parent says that a thousand times, and every parent struggles with it because there is no one and only "best" for every child.

We can do our best for your child at The Alexander Robertson School.

We focus entirely on the elementary-school age child. At the age of five children seem to emerge from their fog and join the world in all kinds of ways. It's a stunning time of development and adjustment. We enjoy the luxury of childhood, and let it be what it is over the next several years. We rejoice in each milestone of growth, and never hurry. I observe that our students, while achieving heights of excellence in behavioral and academic standards, remain comfortably children.

We provide a small environment where each individual is cherished and known. A person of any age feels at home and secure where everyone is known by name. Everyone is a big fish in this pond; and ARS children are not intimidated by the bigger ponds to which they comfortably progress.

The physical plant was built as a school and is coherent, which means children find their way around easily. This adds to a child's sense of mastery of his or her environment.

"We are the world," in the words of the old song, and in fact. We believe it's essential that children know, not just intellectually, but truly know, how interesting, and fun, and surprising, and smart all kinds of people can be.

The Alexander Robertson School is owned and operated by Second Presbyterian Church, which provides the foundational convictions of the school in a non-sectarian setting. We do not formally teach religion. We proudly affirm the school's heritage while guiding the children to be open, informed, and responsible citizens of the world.
