"When we walked in the door it just felt like the right place."— ARS Parent

We’re delighted that you are interested in applying to the Alexander Robertson School. We hope that these pages will answer most of your questions about the admissions process and serve as a guide but please don’t hesitate to contact the admissions office directly if you need further assistance. We’re here to help.

Getting to Know ARS

Children Working TogetherThe best way to decide whether ARS is a good fit for your child is to take a tour of the school, talk to other families who have children enrolled here and meet our staff. As parents ourselves we understand that the admissions process can be overwhelming and strive to make your experience at ARS as stress-free as possible.

Fall Open House Tours will be held on Tuesdays: September 17, October 8, 22 and 29 and November 5 and 12 at 9:00. Please click below to book a tour appointment. Our tours last about 90 minutes and are for the grown-ups only, please! We encourage both parents (or guardians) to attend the same tour together if possible.

Application Process

You don’t have to complete a full application before touring the school but we do encourage parents to fill out our short inquiry form and book a time to visit ARS.

We are still accepting applications to grades that have openings for the 2018-19 school year. Please email the admissions office to find out about openings in the grade you are interested in before completing our online application. You may also call our Director of Admissions, Joan Harrison, on 212-663-2844 if you need further assistance.

Apply Online

Empowerment Through EducationThe full application is available here. Please fill it out and arrange a time to bring your child in to have an assessment interview and to spend some time with her future classmates. As part of the online application you will be asked to sign a release form so that your child’s current school or preschool can release a report directly to ARS.

We will look at the results of any tests that your child may have taken and consider the results along with the other parts of his or her application. We no longer require the ERB Test. Instead, we have developed our own brief assessment which measures your child’s cognitive and academic skills and also his social-emotional abilities. The assessment takes about a half-hour for Junior-K and Kindergarten applicants and is, for the most part, a fun and engaging experience. For applicants to older grades the assessment test will be a little longer.

ARS follows the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) guidelines and timetable. Applications submitted by early December will receive a decision letter in early February. Thereafter ARS will accept applications to Grades that have an opening.
